Citadel Texture Paints Review

A quick look at the new Citadel texture paints.

We’ve seen texture paints from other brands like Tamiya, but these are tiny minuscule pots that are intended for basing figure bases or for diorama use. But how does the price and quality match up to its description? Find out, here!

All you need is already in the video, no description here.

Army Painter Razor Wire Review

Hey guys,

The army painter razor wire is so cheap and goes quite a long way with that bragging 2.5 metre length, but how effective-looking are the results on a figure base?

Find out in this short snippet I filmed!

Revell 04686 – 1/48 Dornier Do 335 Pfeil Model Kit

The Dornier DO 335. The revolutionary German aircraft that marked the end of World War two. Whilst never placed into full production, roughly 12 were made. Incredibly hard to fly and with frequent take-off errors, the DO 335 was never placed into full production. With only two versions, a single-seater and a two-seater trainer version, I chose to build the latter as I had already built the other one before.

This is a full skill-level kit (level five) with only 81 parts. The full model is 291mm x 290mm, and is in scale 1:48.

Model details as specified by Revell:

- Contains parts for the single seat version A-1 or the two-seat version A-12
- Structural details on surface
- Inside engine compartment visible with simulated engine
- Detailed cockpit
- Separate flaps on wings
- Movable propeller
- Detailed undercarriage
- One pilot figure and 2 mechanics
- Decals for 2 German Luftwaffe versions

What struck me was how little parts there were for a skill level 5 model. I prefer having less parts, mind you! Yet this is still rather abnormal. The wings, except for the separate flaps, are very large single pieces with a mirrored base. The landing gear, contrary to my predictions, was not a nightmare! Nothing about this kit surprised me enough NOT to finish building it, which is a good thing.

The paint schemes are “splinter camouflage”. These are so much easier to do, as it’s just straight lines. There’s no need for all the putty or blu-tac to mask out the lines: just simply apply masking tape or Revell Airbrush Film to cover the basecoated areas, and then apply your other coat of paint over this.

I’ve added a small covering over the wing to give it a nice airfield look. It might look really nice on an airfield diorama.

I only had one small concern — the cockpits were prone to sinking because of the all-famous cross-sectional design. A clamp was necessary to hold the canopy floor, seat and pilot from falling whilst the glue was still wet. This was a bit annoying, because I couldn’t progress to gluing the other half of the fuselage until this was dried.

The burs were also very difficult to remove from the pilot because that sprue it was mounted on was very thick. You should consider the use of long-nosed cutting pliers as opposed to a file or knife to remove this.

However these minor flaws were not significant enough to ruin this model. With a few extra tools to use this model was a very enjoyable build. I hope to see Revell’s 1/48 scale expand a lot more – truth be told they’ve really done this series well. I hope to show a step-by step instructional video of the new 1:48 B-17 Memphis Belle this summer!

Now remember, Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers. For

An Army On The Table in 30 Days – Can It Be Done?

Our next project coming up this summer is to create a Warmachine Cygnar army in 30 days (how exciting!). The army should add up to 25 points, giving you an insight to how simple it is to build a small and affordable battleforce whilst on a budget. Here’s an example of a 25 point army, which is going to be very similar to ours:

A 25 point Cygnar Army

The army is to include a Warcaster with a few light warjacks – a perfect start to any force which can then be added onto in the future.

A few stores have returned, some new, to help us build the new army. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the help that they have provided:

Total Wargamer UK For the providing of many items including a texture paint, a spray gun, and other miniatures.
Privateer Press For issuing us with our first 2 figures.
The Army Painter For providing us with countless paints and of course the new range arriving soon.
Wayland Games for sending those free bases they offer to customers!
Veni Vidi Vici for supplying us with the decal paper for the warjacks.

The new army will commence construction very soon — however updates will be less frequent this May-July due to heavy maintenance.

We’ll be back after another update coming on Monday — stay tuned for more updates on our 2 new projects!

Snap-Fit Space Marines Review

Some wargamers just don’t have time to be building a whole army. You’ve seen our take on professional painting services. But unfortunately most likely they won’t assemble the miniatures for you. Thankfully GW have made it really simple to assemble their most popular army, the Space Marines, as well as a few other common squads for their other armies, such as Chaos Daemons.

Space Marine Snap-Fit range kindly supplied by Total Wargamer, supplier of many wargaming brands.

Snap Fit Space Marines

The Snap-Fit range involves a really simple to construct set of figures which you can easily snap together. Whilst glue isn’t even required it’s recommended. The models come in a few parts – the body, the jump-packs, and the weapons, which in this case are boltguns (rifles).

As far as details on the miniature are concerned, the snap-fit range lacks decent moulding. Only the obvious details are present, such as slots for eyes and a few armour contours — but that really is about it. For those who care about consistency between their squads, they might find it irritating when they have a distinct differentiation between the Snap-Fits and the ordinary marines. However, this is hard to recognise once the figures are painted up, considering a lot of this detail is hidden by painting over these details, and also the fact that most of the attention to the figure is the painting, and not the moulding. If you’re more of a gamer, then consider these kits a nice addition. If you think you want to have a much more serious approach to building your army – then perhaps this isn’t the set for you. It’s definitely worth considering this before purchase.

I personally had another concern as well. My main issue is this. Within the snap-fit range each blister pack contains only 3 figures. With a regular Space Marine Tactical Squad the set consists of 10 figures. This means even if you bought 3 boxes, you’d have 9 Snap-Fit miniatures, being one figure short. If you purchase 4 Snap-Fit sets, that’s 12 figures, being 2 figures over where you would have nothing to do with those extra figures unless you bought more sets to fill additional squads! By then you could be spending a very large amount of cash on these sets. VERY daunting.

In all honesty, building the full Space Marines isn’t very hard. There’s less than 15 parts per figure — and besides, with quick-drying superglue and parts which are well moulded, you could dry assemble them in seconds yet alone full assemble. It really is a decision which depends on how much time you have available – but is it much of a gain to save 10-20 minutes per figure whilst sacrificing significant detail and having an oddly-numbered squad? I’ll leave that for you to decide.

Cygnar Minuteman Is Released Today

Today marks the release of a new warmachine light warjack in the United Kingdom for the Cygnar faction – the Minuteman!

The new Cygnar Light Warjack - The Minuteman

The Minuteman is a product of numerous advances in mechanikal warfare. Utilizing an exactingly designed series of compression chambers, the warjack can launch itself short distances by venting its heartfire through a special propulsion system. It is well suited to annihilating entire swathes of infantry with its short-range grenade launchers upon landing, clearing its line of sight to an intended target. The Minuteman can then unload its dual slug guns into harder targets.

We’ll hopefully be able to review this sometime soon – Privateer Press have a lot of new releases on the way.

New Warmachine Colossal Announced – Stormwall!

A new Cygnar Colossal unit has been announced – and it’s HUGE. mounted on a 120mm base (!) the Stormwall towers inches above te rest of the miniature battlefield.

New Cygnar Stormwall - Colossal

Perhaps Nemo’s greatest creation, the Stormwall towers over Cygnar’s enemies with all the majesty and menace of a looming cloudburst. From the thunder of its guns to the blinding cracks of arcing electricity from its lightning pods, the Stormwall is the mechanikal embodiment of the tempest. Powered by both steam and surging voltaic energy, it riddles the enemy lines with cannon shells and hails of bullets before smashing survivors with its electrified fists.

Dornier DO335 (Sneak Peak)

Hi guys,

There’s been a couple of Dornier DO335′s we’ve been working on… Here’s one that’s coming up in a Winter 1946 diorama that’s coming up! *SPOILERS!*

Model's still soaking... but check out phase 1 moulding of camo netting

This is not a full review, merely a peek at what we’re up to in the coming days.

I’ve introduced a scratch-build on it. I’m having camo netting not just sit ontop of the craft, yet actually in a permanent position. This will ensure a very fine finish. Taken here are pictures which have been shot minutes after construction — the model is very wet indeed.

On top of this plaster cloth from Woodland Scenics will go some camo netting, now just to find a supplier of the material!

We expect this to be done by the 19th February, as I am handing over this model to another member for finishing touches!

We’re Not Done Yet!

No… far from. But here’s just a few excuses as to why there’s been no content this December (there’s tons of stuff after Dec 25th).

1). Privateer Press

We’re reviewing a couple of their warjacks, plus all of their P3 formula paints. One warjack is built and its base is done… The other is still box. I’ll finish the two of them tonight. Here’s a little preview of one of the warjacks, the Cygnar Defender!

Cygnar Defender

2). Armourfast

With 16 models to build from Armourfast, there’s so much to do! 4 already done, and let’s say each one takes an hour give or take — that’s a lot of time. 4 fully done already, with 2 half-done from last night… eek.

3). Magic Water

Experimenting with different mixtures of Magic Water’s hardener and resin making different finishes. Won’t say anymore, but a video is coming out either tonight or on Christmas Eve.

4). Revell

Well, we have SO much to review for Revell, I’m swimming in sprues. Yes, I do intend to spread the workload out a little by handing some over to the other boys, but they’re busy with their own things too! :)

5). NECRONS!

Joe’s made a whole ARMY of Necrons! More of his work and figure basing coming this season.
